Welcome to The Homestead Notes
Good evening, homesteaders, and welcome to The Homestead Notes!
I’m truly honored that you’ve chosen to take this time to sit and read what I would say is—my heart put into words. For this first introductory post, I want to share a little about myself, the heart behind Rooted & Natural Co., and the “why” behind what I do.
I want this space to feel inviting and encouraging — a cozy little spot where you can read, learn, and connect through faith and natural living, all while growing alongside me. So with that being said, grab your cup of tea or hot cocoa, get comfy in your chair or on the couch, curl up with your blanket, and dive in to hear more.
Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Erin Davis — I’m 30 years old and, most importantly, a child of God. I’m married to my wonderful, hard-working, smart, and funny husband, Ron. We met in December of 2020 and dated for about a year and a half before he proposed in July of 2022. We eloped in April of 2023 and celebrated with a big ceremony and reception in April of 2024. We’ve now been married for two and a half years.
Our relationship has never been one of sweet romance or fairytale moments. Don’t get me wrong — my husband wooed me — but he’s not, and still isn’t, the most romantic man in the world! He’s a country guy through and through, a little rough around the edges, but he loves the Lord, he loves his country, and I know without a doubt that he loves me. And really, that’s what matters most. So what if I have to teach him a thing or two about romance? That just means more time spent with my husband — and that’s something I’ll never complain about.
The Heart Behind Rooted & Natural Co
Rooted & Natural Co began as more than just a small business—it was born out of a desire to live simply, live intentionally, and live in a way God designed us to live. Over the last couple of years I’ve grown to see that the closer we stay to God’s creation, then the more peace and healing we can find. Everywhere from the food we eat to the products we use on our skin and in our homes, I’ve become more aware of just how much everything is connected—and my husband and I wanted to create something that reflected that truth.
When I first met Ron, he was a hobbyist beekeeper. He loved it and he loved how the bees challenged him in a whole new way 9 years ago. Ron started studying and learning all he could about bees and how they function and work. When I met Ron, I didn’t know much about bees and I was fascinated by it and thought it was amazing that he had hives. He quickly started teaching me and sharing his knowledge with me. I’m still learning everyday about bees and honey and most importantly, beeswax. Beeswax is one of God’s simplest yet most incredible creations. It cleanses the air when it burns, nourishes the skin when it’s applied, and reminds me that God’s design never needs improvement—it just needs to be honored and trusted.
This idea is what helped us create our products and build our small business into what we have so far today. Our lip balms, body balms, candles—each product is created with a heart for purity and purpose without all the unnecessary chemicals and synthetic ingredients that the world tries to convince us that we need. I truly believe that when we return to God’s creation, what’s rooted and natural on the earth, we’re choosing to live in alignment with how God intended—and that is where real wellness and healing begins.
Rooted & Natural Co is not just about the products we make. It’s about stewardship. It’s about using the ingredients of the earth that God has already provided for us and being mindful of what we bring into our homes and how we treat our bodies that God entrusted to us. My hope is that our products—and The Homestead Notes—others will be encouraged to slow down, simplify, and rediscover the beauty that is God’s creation.
This Is My Why
I have found such a passion for what I do through our business. I truly enjoy mixing essential oils to create new candle scents and blending herbs together to create tea blends. Most of all, I enjoy sharing my passion for herbalism and nature and non-toxic ingredients with each customer I have. It’s nice to make a sale, but my reason for what I do goes far behind the number of sales—its to share knowledge and truth with each individual that comes into my booth and wants to know what the purpose of the product is or how the ingredients work together.
I grew up in a Christian home, and I went to church every week and I loved it. I became a Christian at just 7 years old, on my own. However, I don’t remember a single sermon preached about the importance of nature for our own personal health and wellness. Not in depth anyway. It wasn’t until I met my husband that I started becoming more aware of different teachings throughout scripture that I never knew before. As my husband started sharing more and more knowledge and truth about western medicine and holistic remedies, I also started learning more about herbalism and how it all connects back to God’s word. That is what led me to take our business in the direction we are currently going.
It fueled my desire to tell more people about everything I was learning and uncovering that majority of society doesn’t know or care to accept. I want to wake people up to the truth about big pharma, and the toxins in our food, and the chemicals in every single skincare product you get in the cosmetic aisle. I want to teach people that there are better products and hacks and ways to change in daily life. But most importantly, I want to tell others that it’s okay to trust in God’s design for wellness. I’m far from perfect and I’m constantly learning about this world of non-toxic, all-natural living. I’m simply here to learn alongside you and invite you to join me on this journey. If I can help even one person find peace in slowing down and taking a breath or help one person find confidence in choosing natural over synthetic, then I’ll know that I’m doing what I feel God is calling me to do.
Mission of The Homestead Notes
As I end this post, I just want to reiterate that changing from a convenient, synthetic lifestyle to a non-toxic and all-natural one is not a quick and overnight change. It takes patience and discipline and determination. But, if you’re willing, then I want you to know that this is the place to feel seen, find encouragement and find a sense of peace as you start a new journey.
The Homestead Notes will be a place where anyone can come to find herbal education, faith-based encouragement, honest talks about natural and non-toxic living, lessons learned from homesteading and daily life. I want to help you connect heart, home and health—while being rooted in faith.
I invite you to join me, once a week, here at The Homestead Notes as I share my growth and experience of learning how to live more rooted—in faith, in nature, and in gratitude.
Wherever you might be in your journey right now—just beginning or seasoned over the years—I hope this space will help encourage you to slow down, appreciate God’s creation, and embrace a life rooted in what truly matters. Our business verse that we root our mission in is from the book of Ezekiel chapter 47 verse 12: “Their fruit will be for food, and their leaves for healing.” This reminds us that all true provision and healing ultimately comes from God. Not by our own means or understanding.
I want to encourage you to come back next week for our next post about why non-toxic living is important and how it plays a part in living a long and healthy life. If you’d like to be notified each time a new blog is posted, please sign up for our email list. I’d also love to hear your thoughts, what you’re learning, or simply how you might be finding joy in your daily life.
Until next week,
With gratitude and hope,
Erin Davis
